Chemo Status Green!

Chemo Status Green!

Monday, May 15: Living the Green Life!

I’ve been feeling great – status green. Last week and this week were pretty normal. Had a great weekend with my dad in town and our house was on the Poncey-Highlands Tour of Homes! Also, got lots of love and support pouring in over Mother’s Day. Thank you as well to AMS for her support at the Tiger’s Game! And, Aubrey flies in from Copenhagen Thursday to join me in my 3rd round of AC! So all and all spirits are up.

I have been dealing with a cold that my little human gave to me. I give her a “needs improvement” on her coughing-into-arm-instead-of-directly-on-my-face skill. But my biggest issue is, exactly as you would expect, the hair loss. While I’m ready to shave it mentally, I’m still without Amber. And man let me tell you, you don’t realize how much hair you have until you spend weeks pulling it out. I’m sporting a pretty rad comb over which I need to last 2 more days until my wig is in. You can see in the picture below that from the front it’s not too bad, but if I look down you can see my huge part and a big chunk missing. I also barely have enough hair for one pin curl. But if I didn’t tell you, you may not know, outside of the trail of hair I leave where ever I go. I’m sure my secret is safe with you guys though. I even had to ask my Uber driver to put up the windows because I could see hair floating around the car. Luckily, he did so before I was bald.

In an effort to get some backup hair on the quick and cheap, I was able to find a site https://www.rosegal.com/ with a large selection of wigs for under $20. Knowing that cheap synthetic wigs were a gamble and I could easily look like a Halloween costume fail, I ordered a few. They even helped me by rush packing and shipping them knowing my situation! So how did I do? Of the 4 I received, 2 are “passable.” My big lesson learned – cheap wigs need bangs. If they don’t have bangs, you can see the seam by your forehead, as they don’t have lace fronts and that fine detail. One of the wigs looks decent as is, though if you look close those there are some weird frizzy pieces that I’m not sure what to do with yet. The other wig (see below) is an unfortunate mullet cut instead of advertised layers, BUT as a resourceful hair dresser wannabe, I pulled out a few bobby pins and a hair tie, and voila passable! I should get Amber back on Thursday, so here’s to keeping my hair on my head and wigs close by for the next few days!

  1. Wow! You look beautiful no matter what hair you have/don’t have/are borrowing.
    Hugs to you!
