Update: Change of Surgery Date

On Friday (9/28), I had my follow up exam with my Surgical Oncologist (SO).  We discussed my nemesis the cyst, which had grown since the last time we had met.  She seemed concerned with the cyst, so we drained it to confirm it was actually a cyst vs. a solid mass; they pulled out about 5ccs of fluid. I should have some pathology back soon.

With that, she said she felt uncomfortable with “leaving triple negative breast cancer untreated for 4 more weeks” and requested to move my surgery up.  We mentioned our vacation to Copenhagen to see Aubrey.  After speaking with my Medical Oncologist they both agreed that we should remove the lump sooner, so they proposed a lumpectomy this week and then mastectomy after vacation.

At that point I spoke with Shawn and Aubrey, and we all agreed postponing the trip was the best idea and not to mess around.  My SO then requested to do the surgery this Thursday, which I was wildly unprepared for (I had a trip planned this week,  we have guests this weekend and a party on Saturday).  I mentioned to my SO that if she thought we needed to go ASAP (there is still a lump even after draining it) on Thursday then I would oblige but my preference was next week.  So they have spent the last 2 days trying to coordinate a new surgery date with the hospital, my SO and my plastic surgeon.  After many calls and even consideration of trying to go with a plastic surgeon who I hadn’t met yet;  I finally got a call today that they got me scheduled for next Tuesday!

With that, I’m scheduled for surgery next Tuesday 10/9/18 at Northside Hospital in their Breast Care Center – which sounds very nice. Apparently the center is focused around breast surgeries.   I should be there for 1 night and then home to do some Netflix-ing – recommendations welcome!!

So now on to redoing all of my October plans! It’ll be good to get it done though and now when I go to visit Aubrey I’ll – fingers cross – be cancer free!

More updates to come!

  1. Oh sheesh! What a roller coaster Kristine! I’m sorry to hear you had to rearrange your plans but I’m glad you guys are able to get this taken care of ASAP.

I recommend watching the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” on Prime TV or Netflix if you haven’t already. It’s hilarious and produced by the same woman who wrote “Gilmore Girls”, Amy Sherman-Palladino, so it’s hilariously witty!

    Hope you’re doing well!
